Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Behavioral Health Medical Director to join our team at Elevance Health. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for overseeing the administration of physical and/or behavioral health medical services, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care to our members.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in psychiatry, with a minimum of 10 years of clinical experience. You will be responsible for developing and implementing programs to improve quality, cost, and outcomes, as well as providing clinical consultation and serving as a clinical/strategic advisor to enhance clinical operations.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Supporting clinicians to ensure timely and consistent responses to members and providers
  • Providing guidance for clinical operational aspects of a program
  • Conducting peer-to-peer clinical reviews with attending physicians or other providers to discuss review determinations and patients' office visits
  • Representing the company to external entities and/or serving on internal and/or external committees
  • Interpreting medical policies and clinical guidelines
  • Developing and proposing new medical policies based on changes in healthcare

Requirements:

  • MD or DO degree and Board certification approved by one of the following certifying boards: American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS) or American Osteopathic Association (AOA)
  • Active unrestricted medical license to practice medicine or a health profession
  • Minimum of 10 years of clinical experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background

Preferred qualifications:

  • Board Certified in Child & Adolescent psychiatry
  • At least 2+ years' experience in managed care
  • Experience working with children, youth and families served by the child welfare system and/or demonstrated familiarity with the State agencies that are involved with their care

Work Environment:

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week. Specific requirements and expectations for time onsite will be discussed as part of the hiring process.
