General Summary
The Childhood Communication Specialist is tasked with the assessment, development, and execution of therapeutic strategies, alongside meticulous data collection, consultation, and training for families and staff. This role involves collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to formulate and uphold therapy plans that cater to the speech, language, and feeding requirements of clients. Supervision of direct speech and language services will be managed by the Manager of Speech and Occupational Therapy.
The Childhood Communication Specialist operates within a clinical setting and is responsible for gathering data on targeted behaviors during therapy sessions. This position requires the ability to identify issues, collect relevant data, establish facts, and draw logical conclusions. Proficiency in interpreting a wide range of technical instructions, responding to inquiries or complaints from clients, and effectively communicating information to senior management is essential.
The physical demands of this role are representative of those necessary for successful performance of essential job functions. Regular activities include sitting, using hands for manipulation, and verbal communication. Frequent reaching with hands and arms is required, while occasional standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may also be necessary. The role may involve lifting and/or moving weights up to 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodations can be made for individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions.

Key Responsibilities
Core responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Maintaining a detailed therapy plan for each client while managing a caseload of 45 sessions per week unless directed otherwise by the Senior Director of Speech.
- Conducting speech and feeding sessions scheduled for 30 minutes, with frequency determined by clinical recommendations.
- Documentation responsibilities encompass: pre-authorizations, initial evaluations, re-evaluations, insurance reports, progress reports, and SOAP notes. Templates for all documentation are available in the electronic database system utilized by the organization.
- Delivering individual therapy focused on various areas including speech, language, feeding, AAC, and social skills.
- Collaborating with BCBAs, OTs, external providers, and families to ensure a consistent continuum of care for clients.
- Maintaining current certification with the state licensing board and the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), adhering to ethical standards.
- Representing the organization positively at local, state, and national professional seminars.
- Contributing to the ongoing growth and development of the organization.
- Traveling as necessary to participate in required training sessions such as CPR, CPI, and professional development.
- Upholding the organization's core principles, policies, and procedures while ensuring HIPAA compliance.
- Performing other duties and special projects as assigned.
Required Certifications
The following certifications and licenses are mandatory for this position:
- Permanent licensure from the state-specific licensing board. Temporary licenses must be obtained prior to starting the Clinical Fellowship year if applicable.
- Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), if not in the Clinical Fellowship Year.
