Dedicated Sign Language Expert Wanted for Educational Setting

We are seeking a highly skilled Sign Language Interpreter to join our team in the North Charleston, SC area. As a Sign Language Interpreter, you will play a vital role in bridging communication barriers and ensuring equitable access to education for a deaf or hard-of-hearing student.

This is a full-time, in-person position for the 2024-2025 school year, offering a competitive salary and benefits package. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of educational terminology and curriculum content, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills to foster positive relationships with the student, teachers, administrators, and other school staff.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide accurate and real-time sign language interpretation for a deaf or hard-of-hearing student across various educational settings.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information communicated during interpretation sessions.
  • Collaborate with the student's teachers, specialists, and other professionals to ensure a cohesive learning environment.
  • Advocate for the student's needs and promote inclusive practices within the school community.
  • Stay current on best practices in sign language interpreting for educational settings and maintain professional certifications.

Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.

Location: North Charleston, SC area.

Qualifications:

  • National Registry of Certified Interpreters (RID) certification or eligibility for certification.
  • Prior experience interpreting in educational settings, particularly with deaf or hard-of-hearing students.
  • Strong understanding of educational terminology and curriculum content across various grade levels.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in both American Sign Language (ASL) and spoken English.
