ROLE SUMMARY:
The Superintendent is seeking applications from qualified individuals for the role of:

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Candidates must possess New York State permanent teacher certification in Special Education, along with 3-5 years of proven classroom experience in an urban educational environment. A minimum of 1 year of experience leading CSE meetings is preferred. Candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of Federal and State regulations related to Special Education and expertise in Individual Education Program development. Familiarity with Frontline IEP, including the maintenance and access of reports and listings, is essential. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is required. Experience in customer service, training, and technical documentation writing is advantageous.

LOCATION:
Central Committee on Special Education

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Chairperson of the Central Committee on Special Education will be responsible for, but not limited to:

  • Organizing, implementing, and overseeing all processes related to the Central Committee on Special Education or Preschool Special Education, ensuring compliance with Commissioner's Regulations and Federal Law.
  • Ensuring that staff document student responses to interventions prior to referrals, monitoring compliance with Individual Education Plans, and providing solutions to administrators for maintaining compliance.
  • Assisting in the development and implementation of Individual Education Plans.
  • Supporting teachers with effective strategies for Individual Education Plan execution.
  • Utilizing data systems to keep relevant information updated.
  • Providing placement information to students and families as necessary.
  • Adhering to procedures for the provision of services or placement of students.
  • Communicating with special education administrators, parents, and Student Support Team members as appropriate.
  • Performing any additional duties as assigned.
APPOINTMENT PROCESS:
The Board of Education will make the appointment based on the Superintendent's recommendation, following an assessment of training, experience, credentials, and service evaluation. Personal interviews will be scheduled as deemed appropriate.

SALARY: Teacher salary schedule based on BTF contract.
