The primary objective is to uphold the highest standards of quality care while delivering therapeutic services to patients and overseeing the therapy assistant(s) in executing therapy services, in alignment with current federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Administers physical therapy services to patients following a physician's prescribed care plan. This may encompass, but is not limited to:
- Evaluating and assessing therapeutic, rehabilitative, and functional status, and contributing to the formulation of the comprehensive care plan.
- Assessing muscle strength, mobility, gait, and range of motion (ROM).
- Directing the course of physical therapy treatment.
- Educating patients and their families/caregivers on the use and maintenance of therapeutic devices.
- Identifying priority needs for physical therapy.
- Communicating with the physician regarding the patient's response to treatment or any changes in condition.
- Initiates physical therapy and instructs other staff and/or family/caregiver members in specific aspects of physical therapy with which they may engage with a patient, as well as clarifying the objectives of the physical therapy program during case discussions.
- May provide training in the use of prosthetic devices.
- Prepares and submits clinical and progress reports based on the achievement of goals as outlined by company policy.
- Engages in discharge planning for patients.
- Maintains communication with other professionals involved in the patient's care to facilitate coordinated and effective treatment.
- Participates in and contributes to in-service training, case discussions, and other meetings as mandated by company policy to ensure cohesive and comprehensive care plans for patients.
- Identifies the needs of patients and families/caregivers and refers them as necessary.
- Instructs family/caregivers and other company personnel on the patient's treatment regimen when appropriate.
- Supervises physical therapy assistants in accordance with company policy and state regulations.
- Complies with all company policies and procedures.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a degree from an accredited baccalaureate or Master's program in physical therapy recognized by the American Physical Therapy Association.
- Must hold a valid and current license to practice physical therapy in the state of employment.
- Requires two (2) years of clinical experience as a physical therapist.
- Exhibits strong verbal and written communication, as well as organizational skills.
- Familiarity with general computer operations, including program initiation, file management, and navigation. Proficiency in internet use, email, and understanding confidentiality of user information is essential. Experience with Apple devices is a plus.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have an insured vehicle that meets state or organizational requirements and is in good working condition. Some travel may be necessary.
- Must be capable of fulfilling the job functions of this position with or without accommodation.
- If applying for an outpatient role, an active AHA (American Heart Association) CPR certification is required.
