Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Landscape Maintenance Specialist to join our team at the University of Central Oklahoma. As a key member of our facilities department, you will be responsible for maintaining the beauty and functionality of our campus grounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain campus lawns by mowing, raking, edging, trimming, fertilizing, and using weed control methods.
  • Prepare flower beds for growing annuals and bulbs and other areas for seed and sod.
  • Plant grass, flowers, trees, and shrubs.
  • Maintain campus shrubs by watering, spraying, weeding, and cleaning shrub plantings.
  • Maintain driveways and walkways by spreading salt to remove ice buildup and shoveling snow.
  • Remove litter, sweep, and clean around trash dumpsters and containers, and collect rubbish left on campus.
  • Install signs and fences as needed.
  • Assist with artificial turf maintenance in sports complexes.
  • Perform duties associated with special events.
  • Ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) provisions.
  • Operate various hand tools and gas-powered tools, and maintain them properly.
  • Operate water tankers, pumps, and sprayers as needed.
  • Operate roto tillers, lawn sweepers, sprayers, aerators, and tractors as needed.
  • May operate tractors and bobcats to remove snow and ice from drives and walkways.
  • May assist the Irrigation Technician.
  • May make minor repairs on equipment.
Requirements
  • General education or vocational training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License.
  • Pass pre-employment screening.
  • Previous experience in landscape maintenance is not necessary, but preferred.
Working Conditions

This position requires a physical. The physical demands of this job include:

  • Lifting 50 lbs. regularly and 75 lbs. occasionally.
  • Lifting 50 lbs. and carrying 200 feet.
  • Lifting 50 lbs. and carrying up/down 30 stairs.
  • Walking regularly for long periods of time across the campus.
  • Sitting for long periods of time.
  • Using and reaching with hands and arms regularly.
  • Climbing in high places using a ladder or balance frequently.
  • Stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending, and crawling occasionally.
  • Pushing or pulling a dolly loaded with up to 120 pounds for 300 feet occasionally.
  • Having close, distance, and peripheral vision.
  • Depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Passing a pulmonary function test.
