Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN), or Licensed Psychiatric Technician (LPT) plays a crucial role in the healthcare team by administering medications, transcribing medical orders, and overseeing nursing personnel as directed by the Charge Nurse.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

Must hold a valid license as an RN, LPT, or LVN.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of one year of experience in a psychiatric care environment is required.

CERTIFICATIONS:

Possession of a valid CA Driver's license with a clean driving record.

Current CPR certification is mandatory.

SPECIFIC SKILLS:

Proficient in verbal and written communication with individuals experiencing psychiatric conditions.

Highly organized with strong documentation and time management skills, critical thinking abilities, and a solid understanding of policies and procedures. Demonstrates effective leadership skills and the capacity to perform under pressure.

Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as knowledge of Patient's Rights.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Capability to physically execute containment, escort, and restraint procedures with residents exhibiting aggressive behavior.

Ability to visually and audibly assess the behavior and needs of residents.

POTENTIAL RISKS:

Exposure to aggressive residents.

Contact with blood and bodily fluids (Category 1).

Operation of company vehicles.

SAFETY MEASURES:

Demonstrate proficiency in crisis management techniques.

Adhere to universal precautions.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Participate in shift report.
  • Review daily assignments with the Charge Nurse and other staff.
  • Administer medications to assigned residents safely and legally, ensuring timely and accurate documentation.
  • Examine all relevant resources, including grand round notes and memos.
  • Attend medical meetings.
  • Communicate any changes in residents' conditions with the Charge Nurse, medical doctors, and Nurse Manager.
  • Assist nursing staff with progress and interdisciplinary treatment notes as necessary.
  • Conduct face-to-face assessments for residents experiencing psychiatric or medical changes and document findings appropriately.
  • Engage in interdisciplinary treatment team discussions, modifying Resident Care Plans to ensure timely and accurate treatment planning and documentation.
  • Maintain comprehensive clinical records and charts for assigned caseloads, ensuring accuracy in nursing notes, physician's orders, and lab results.
  • Support the Nurse Manager in evaluating staff performance.
  • Oversee the ordering and maintenance of supplies required for the unit and medication room.
  • Comply with infection control protocols.
