Position Overview:
As a Surgical Care Nurse, you will deliver professional nursing services within the Borgess Medical Center. This role involves the systematic application of specialized knowledge and skills derived from biological, physical, and behavioral sciences to provide care, treatment, counseling, and health education to individuals experiencing health changes or requiring assistance in maintaining health and preventing or managing illness, injury, or disability. You will demonstrate this through adherence to the Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice and Standards of Professional Performance as defined by the American Nurses Association.
Recognizing the uniqueness of each patient, you will ensure the delivery of quality nursing care that fosters mutual goal setting between the Surgical Care Nurse and the patient while safeguarding patient rights and privacy.
The nursing process will facilitate the promotion, maintenance, and restoration of individual health, incorporating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan. You will be knowledgeable about nursing practices, procedures, competencies, and patient care standards, as well as regulations and guidelines pertaining to nursing care.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with patients, families, and the healthcare team to identify mutual goals based on nursing assessments and diagnoses.
- Diagnose, treat, and evaluate human responses to actual or potential health issues.
- Assess, monitor, and prevent complications related to health situations or treatment plans.
- Communicate patient conditions and responses to nursing interventions to physicians and document actions appropriately.
- Ensure comprehensive pain management through assessment, treatment, documentation, and evaluation.
- Delegate tasks to licensed and unlicensed care providers based on clinical judgment and skill level.
Qualifications:
- An Associate of Applied Science in Nursing (AAS) Degree, Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), or RN Diploma is required at the start date.
- A minimum of two (2) years of current surgical experience is required, with operating room experience preferred.
