Job Title: Head Custodian II

Employment Type: Full-time

Length of Work Year: 12 months per year

Salary: Range 30; $25.49 per hour (5 step increments)

Job Summary

Under general supervision, the Head Custodian II will plan, organize, and supervise the activities of custodial staff, perform custodial duties, and related work as required.

Responsibilities
  1. Performs routine custodial duties, including cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining the school plant.
  2. Confers with the principal or supervisor regarding care and cleaning programs.
  3. Informs the principal of needed repairs and prepares for and arranges custodial services for various activities or events.
  4. Assists custodians with cleaning problems and instructs new custodians in their work.
  5. Maintains a sufficient quantity of janitorial materials and makes minor repairs to school equipment and buildings.
  6. Checks the heating system to ensure adequate heating throughout the plant and changes heating and cooling filters as directed.
  7. Inspects buildings and grounds for waste, vandalism, and hazardous conditions.
  8. Resets clocks, hoists flags, receives and delivers supplies, and rearranges equipment and furniture among school buildings.
  9. Operates powered vehicles and performs seasonal grounds duties.
Requirements

Requires completion of high school, three years of custodial and maintenance experience, and special training in safety and handling of hazardous materials. Must have a thorough knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in custodial and general maintenance.

Working Conditions

The Head Custodian II will work in a fast-paced environment, performing physical tasks that require bending, twisting, kneeling, and stooping repeatedly. Must be able to lift light to medium weight materials or equipment up to 50 pounds on a regular basis and over 50 pounds on an occasional basis.
