Code Enforcement Specialist

Vets Hired is seeking a highly skilled Code Enforcement Officer III to join our team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for performing specialized and complex inspections and enforcing municipal, land development, and property maintenance codes within city boundaries.
Key Responsibilities- Conducts and performs specialized, technical, and complex inspections on city properties, projects, buildings, homeowner properties, and developments to ensure compliance with all municipal, state, and federal regulations.
- Identifies, determines, and compiles non-compliant concerns and addresses issues with appropriate parties; investigates alleged violations and tracks corrective actions.
- Investigates non-compliant problems and makes recommendations for corrective action; communicates and collaborates with developers and other individuals to address code violations and make changes.
- Creates accurate and professional notices of violation; takes photographs and gathers evidence while performing inspections; issues citations and responds to citizen complaints.
- Educates and provides information to citizens, developers, and the general public; interprets laws and regulations while educating public on laws regulations and code standards.
- Drafts, maintains, and edits documents regarding inspections, code enforcement activities, and code violations; creates and updates service requests appropriately tracking work assignments and progress.
- Oversees, trains, and provides professional development opportunities for lower level officers and subordinate staff; provides quality control over inspection and code enforcement activities.
- Travels throughout the city to perform inspections and address compliance and code violations; testifies in various hearings and trials for prosecution of violations of Dallas City codes and zoning regulations.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Two (2) years of experience interpreting and enforcing codes/ordinances, investigating code violations and/or issuing citations.
- Valid drivers license with good driving record. Must have current license as a Code Enforcement Officer issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
- Ability to prepare reports.
- Ability to testify in court and deal effectively with the public.
- Basic PC skills.
- Critical thinking, problem solving, diplomacy, and tact skills.
- Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred, but not required.
