JOB OVERVIEW:
The Emergency Room Registered Nurse is a licensed healthcare professional dedicated to upholding the standards set forth by the Texas Board of Nurse Examiners. This role involves assessing, organizing, modifying, evaluating, documenting, and maintaining comprehensive care plans for patients in the Emergency Department.
The RN is tasked with ensuring quality, cost-effective care while fostering positive guest relations. The approach to care is individualized, holistic, family-centered, and prioritizes safety. Exceptional customer service is paramount and is expected to be a fundamental aspect of the RN's responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Associate Degree in Nursing or higher
- Current Registered Nurse license in Texas
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in an emergency room setting
- Current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS (TNCC, ENPC, and CEN preferred but not mandatory)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Flexibility and a service-oriented mindset
- Critical-thinking abilities with a proactive approach to problem-solving and awareness of changing patient conditions
Availability to work four mandatory weekend shifts each month is required.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Delivering excellent customer service
- Exhibiting courtesy and respect towards all staff members
- Conducting laboratory point-of-care testing and all CLIA waived testing as approved
- Following up on all laboratory specimens sent out, ensuring accurate documentation and physician notification
- Maintaining accurate records on the perpetual narcotic inventory and reporting discrepancies to the Nurse Manager immediately
- Performing daily lab and equipment checks for quality assurance
- Assisting with follow-up phone calls as necessary
- Ensuring the facility is maintained in a clean and orderly manner in compliance with OSHA standards, reporting any equipment failures or deficiencies
- Upholding patient confidentiality and accurately documenting in patient charts
- Delegating tasks appropriately to Radiology Technicians, Registration Clerks, and EMT-Paramedics
- Monitoring supply levels during each shift and reporting shortages
- Reviewing company communications throughout each shift as this is the primary means of information exchange
- Documenting incidents accurately and reporting them to the Nurse Manager and Physician on duty
- Utilizing biohazard containers correctly
- Complying with all federal regulations, including but not limited to HIPAA, CMS, and CLIA
- Timely and safely emptying sharps containers
WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
- Responsibilities are performed in a dynamic emergency room setting
- Physical demands include the ability to lift and/or move patients using proper body mechanics, with a willingness to seek assistance when necessary
- Frequent standing, walking, and sitting are required; occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be necessary
- Participation in random drug screenings is mandatory.
This is a Full-Time position working Nights.
