Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Desktop Support Specialist to join our team at the State of North Carolina. As a Desktop Support Specialist, you will be responsible for providing technical support to employees, mainly on the Cooper/Cotton campus. You will utilize LANDesk and other tools designated by DHHS IT management to provide technical support of hardware, applications, operating systems, and networking equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build and deploy PC's and peripheral equipment
  • Complete software installations
  • User account management
  • Respond to and resolve customer incidents and requests (tickets) in a timely manner
  • Maintain security standards

Requirements
  • Considerable (conceptual and practical) knowledge of computer technology, applications, operating systems, and the capabilities and limitations of computer and peripheral equipment
  • Ability to understand operations and organize components into a logical system
  • Thorough knowledge of networking communication standards and protocols, and personal computers
  • Thorough knowledge of Active Directory administration, installation, configuration, and service and support
  • Thorough experience with Outlook, Windows Operating System, Printers, Anti-Virus applications
  • Ability to implement and research appropriate new technologies
  • Ability to independently resolve unique problems through advanced system analysis and troubleshooting procedures and without a pre-determined course of action
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to analyze and assess client needs to develop effective and appropriate solutions
Preferred Qualifications
  • One year experience with an endpoint management solution such as Ivanti (LANDesk) or SCCM
  • One year experience with an enterprise-level patch management solution
  • Industry certifications such as A+ or Microsoft MTA, MCSA or MCSE
Physical Requirements
  • Routine physical effort with work conducted in an office environment
  • Due to nature of hardware work, the ability to move and lift at least 50 pounds of equipment is desirable
  • Required to wear a cell phone
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; OR Associate degree in computer science or an IT related field from an appropriately accredited institution and three years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; OR High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and five years of experience in the information technology field related to the position's role; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
