Position Overview:

The Senior Accountant plays a crucial role in the Financial Operations of Mount Wachusett Community College. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks that support the financial integrity of the institution, including managing accounts receivable, processing cash disbursements, maintaining vendor records, and overseeing banking operations.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct weekly accounts payable check runs, process student refunds, and manage state appropriation payments as required.
  • Monitor outstanding checks, coordinate follow-ups, and execute necessary voids.
  • Facilitate wire transfers and perform various banking-related tasks as needed.
  • Maintain accurate vendor records, including IRS W-9 forms, new vendor setups, and ACH payment details.
  • Perform monthly bank statement reconciliations and provide daily bank transaction updates.
  • Investigate discrepancies in general ledger accounts utilizing the Banner system.
  • Prepare general, adjusting, and correcting journal entries to ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Ensure adherence to the Cash Management policy established by the College.
  • Collaborate with various departments to foster a culture of teamwork and cooperation.
  • Promote the principle that diversity is essential in all aspects of the job.
  • Engage with external agencies to resolve accounting discrepancies and gather necessary data for reports.
  • Prepare financial statements and conduct account analyses as required.
  • Participate in system implementation initiatives and support process improvements to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Assist in the preparation and review of audit work papers and financial analyses.
  • Serve as a backup for other financial office functions as necessary.
  • Perform additional job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a minimum of three years of full-time or equivalent part-time professional experience in accounting or auditing, with at least one year in a supervisory or managerial role. An Associate's degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field may substitute for one year of experience, while a Bachelor's degree may substitute for up to two years. A Graduate degree in a relevant field may fulfill the experience requirement entirely.

  • Proficient in general report writing and data analysis.
  • Ability to interpret financial documents and regulations.
  • Skilled in mathematical calculations and problem-solving.

  • Experience with automated accounting systems and cash management functions.
