Role Summary:

The role of the Plasma Coating Technician is pivotal within the manufacturing and engineering sectors, concentrating on the application of plasma spray coatings to a variety of substrates. This process utilizes plasma arc technology to melt and project materials onto surfaces, significantly improving their durability, resistance to corrosion, and thermal characteristics.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Equipment Operation: Manage plasma spray machinery to apply coatings to components in accordance with established specifications and quality benchmarks.
  • Material Preparation: Prepare and handle spray materials including powders, rods, wires, and gases for the coating process. This may involve cleaning, masking, grit blasting, and de-masking.
  • Inspection: Conduct visual inspections for surface defects and dimensional checks using precision instruments such as micrometers and calipers.
  • Process Oversight: Monitor and fine-tune spraying parameters (e.g., temperature, velocity, feed rate) to ensure uniform and high-quality coatings. Engage in ongoing process improvement initiatives.
  • Quality Assurance: Evaluate coated surfaces for adherence, thickness, porosity, and other quality metrics. Execute post-spray inspections and assessments.
  • Maintenance Duties: Carry out routine maintenance and troubleshooting of plasma spray equipment to guarantee optimal functionality and safety, adhering to service manuals.
  • Safety Compliance: Follow safety protocols and guidelines, particularly regarding hazardous materials, and utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE). Report any unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Documentation: Keep precise records of spraying activities, including process parameters, materials utilized, and quality inspection outcomes.
  • Team Collaboration: Work in conjunction with other teams to achieve project deadlines and quality standards. Participate in cross-training with fellow Plasma Coating Technicians and adapt to various production assignments.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience: A minimum of two years in applying thermal spray coatings (plasma, wire).
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in using precision measuring tools.
    • Ability to interpret and follow technical plans and instructions for plasma spray, HVOF, and wire arc spray applications.
    • Capability to understand and execute requirements from service manuals.
    • Ability to read and interpret blueprints (Metric).
    • Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality inspections.
    • Problem-solving aptitude and troubleshooting skills for equipment issues.
    • Proficient in reading and writing in English.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Experience with operating robotic arms, potentially FANUC or ABB models.
