Recreational Therapist Job Description

UTHealth Houston is seeking a skilled Recreational Therapist to join our team at the Dunn Behavioral Sciences Center/HCPC. As a key member of our interdisciplinary team, you will play a vital role in providing treatment-centered interventions through therapeutic recreation programs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement recreational therapy programs to assist patients in achieving stabilization and promoting healthier lifestyles.
  • Administer recreation activities and instruct patients on the benefits of participating in these activities.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for patient medical records.
  • Contribute to the achievement of HCPC's strategic goals and objectives.
  • Assess and implement treatment plan goals and outcomes related to identified problems.
  • Monitor and coordinate patient care by collaborating with other direct care disciplines.
Requirements:
  • NCTRC Certified as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or Therapeutic Recreation Specialist/Texas Certified (TRS/TXC).
  • Bachelor's degree in recreation therapy, leisure and/or recreation studies.
  • Minimum one year of experience as a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist or two years of experience as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist/Texas Certified (TRS/TXC).
