The Vascular Medicine department at Cleveland Clinic offers extensive care for individuals with arterial, venous, and lymphatic disorders.
As a PRN Registered Nurse (RN), your responsibilities will include delivering direct nursing care, executing and overseeing patient care plans, administering medications and treatments, evaluating and coordinating discharge plans, and monitoring, documenting, and communicating patients' conditions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic or therapeutic procedures in various healthcare environments.
  • Conduct patient assessments; complete nursing evaluations, document findings in patient records, and alert physicians of any abnormal results.
  • Develop a care plan in collaboration with the patient, their family, and the healthcare team.
  • Coordinate ongoing patient care, identifying discharge needs and facilitating discharge planning as necessary.
  • Provide telephone triage and participate in call rotations as required by the department.
  • Execute nursing procedures and treatments as directed by physicians or licensed independent practitioners in managing patient care.
  • Evaluate, initiate, and uphold standards of care in alignment with Cleveland Clinic policies and procedures.
  • Assist with specialized patient care equipment as required by the clinical department and medical specialty.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by a physician or licensed independent practitioner.
  • Direct, coordinate, and engage in the evaluation and supervision of nursing care provided to patients.
  • Establish patient care priorities and delegate nursing tasks based on patient needs and staff qualifications.
  • Serve as charge nurse when assigned to ensure efficient operations and continuity of care.
  • Participate in educational, research, and performance improvement initiatives. Provide health education to patients and their families.
  • Develop, assess, adapt, and document educational materials to meet the learning needs of patients and families.
  • Assist in preparing department-specific educational resources for patients and colleagues. Cover other nursing roles within the department as needed.
  • Maintain core competencies in nursing (CPR, skills labs).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Requirements:

  • Graduate of an Accredited School of Nursing.
  • BSN preferred.

Certifications:

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) is required. In areas performing moderate sedation procedures, Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification through AHA must be obtained within six months of hire.
  • If working in an Emergency Department, Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification through AHA is required upon hire or within one year of starting in the Emergency Department.
  • In areas utilizing Peripherally Inserted Central Catheters (PICC Lines), Certified Registered Nurse Infusion (CRNI) or Vascular Access Board Certified (VA-BC) certification is preferred within three years of hire.

Complexity of Work:

  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and taking appropriate actions.

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of one year of recent RN experience is required; two years of recent RN experience is preferred.
  • For Cardiac Catheterization or related procedural areas, one year of critical care experience in a hospital setting is preferred.
  • Current demonstrated clinical competence.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination.
  • Requires standing and walking for extended periods.
  • Requires corrected hearing and vision within normal ranges.
  • May involve exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
  • Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Physical demand requirements exceed those for Light Work.

  • Adheres to Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
