Company Overview
Uncommon Schools is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering exceptional K-12 education in underserved communities. Our network comprises high-performing public charter schools that reflect the diversity of our student body, with over 60% of our educators identifying as people of color. Currently, we operate 53 schools, serving more than 20,000 students across multiple cities. Position Summary

Participation in nationally recognized competitive programs not only enhances college admissions prospects but also supports ongoing college success. The coach will oversee a project-based class that convenes twice weekly for two hours, with additional hours required during after-school sessions. During the build season, the coach will engage with students for extended hours after school and on weekends to prepare for competitions. Preference will be given to candidates with prior FRC experience.
Responsibilities
- Preparation & Practice:

- Fall Semester: Conduct 4 hours of practices weekly, including:
- Regular coaching sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 hour each day, from August to June.
- After-school practices on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 hour each day.
- Build Season (January - April): Dedicate 8 hours weekly, including:
- Consistent coaching sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 1 hour each day, from August to June.
- Engage in an average of 6 hours of additional practice outside school hours weekly, directly working with students to prepare for competitions.
- Spring (April-June): Commit 2 hours weekly to:
- Conclude the competition year, manage inventory, order new materials, prepare student leaders for the upcoming year, and initiate recruitment for new team members.
- Competitions: Participate in 2-3 weekends of competitions per academic year, including:
- Registration and participation in off-season competitions.
- Registration and participation in at least one regional or district competition.
- Family Engagement:
- Due to the extensive time commitment for after-school practices, establish team member commitments through signed parent permission forms.
- Collaborate with the school’s Enrichment Program Manager to implement a family communication strategy using the Remind app to keep families informed about competitions, after-school practices, and other club-related activities.
Compensation
Coaches will receive an annual stipend ranging from $4500 to $9000, commensurate with experience and contracted hours, paid semi-monthly. Adjustments to the stipend may occur if responsibilities are not fulfilled throughout the year.
