Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Product Development Design Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our Product Development team, you will be responsible for leading the technical aspects of closure product design from concept ideation through commercialization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement custom and proprietary designs for closure products, working closely with customers, sales teams, and cross-functional partners to ensure design goals are met.
- Collaborate with Product Development Managers to identify design objectives and develop end products that meet customer needs.
- Design considerations must include best-in-class features, whether existing Berry solutions or competitive offerings (subject to IP restrictions).
- Work closely with Product Development Engineering, Marketing, and Sales teams on new product development.
- Create documentation necessary to convey design solutions, including internal and external documentation.
- Coordinate and manage all aspects of design, ensuring adherence to Berry's Management of Change, ISO, industry, and regulatory procedures.
- Facilitate technical analysis and design reviews on all designs moving to the prototype and production phases.
Performance Metrics:
- Design accuracy and quality.
- Deadline management and project delivery.
- Adherence to Berry's Management of Change, ISO, and industry standards.
- Intellectual Property submissions and management.
- Continuous improvement and expansion of subject matter expertise.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Plastics Engineering or related fields.
- Experience with 3D computer modeling, preferably SolidWorks and/or Pro/Engineer.
- Experience with Finite Element Analysis and MoldFlow is a plus.
- Knowledge of injection molding processes, processing, and tooling is required.
- Ability to travel as needed (5-20%).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Self-motivated individual with strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to prioritize, multi-task, and be a proactive thinker.
- Possess a strong aesthetic sense with the ability to bring meaningful form to concepts.
- Strong team player with an exceptional positive attitude.
- Strong skills in core design competencies: stack-up analysis, sketching, concept ideation, presenting, problem-solving.
