Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant Lead to join our team at UPMC Life Changing Medicine. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional patient care and support to our patients and staff.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with various aspects of patient care, including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks, to ensure patient satisfaction.
  • Serve as a lead person for the team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.
  • Attend routine meetings with staff to communicate procedural changes and improve service quality and patient safety.
  • Participate in the implementation of department goals, processes, and procedures, and assist with the orientation of new staff members.
  • Relay instructions and education to patients per provider's instruction, and document patient information in the medical record while adhering to all confidentiality requirements and policies.
  • Work directly with the manager to identify opportunities for improvement in regards to clinical/nonclinical functions and infection control procedures.
  • Serve as an office super user of EPIC Care as assigned, and must attend competency training and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category-specific tasks.
  • Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with HIPAA and other state and federal regulations, and obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol, and prepare for examination.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Medical Assistant certification from a national certifying organization (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA), or successful completion of Medical Assistant program, or graduated from an LPN, RN, or EMT/Paramedics program.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic, and treatment room responsibilities.
  • Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: Medical Assistant, Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting, Act 33, Act 34, Act 73 FBI Clearance.
