This role is integral in assisting the Director of Exhibitions to achieve the objectives of the Association of Academic Museums & Galleries. The position encompasses a variety of responsibilities including operational management, visitor engagement, exhibition logistics, administrative support, programming, outreach, and event facilitation.
The Exhibition Operations Manager will engage with both academic and community stakeholders, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances the mission of the organization while focusing on the involvement of faculty, students, and the public.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operational Management (35%) — Ensures that exhibition spaces are staffed and accessible during operational hours, including weekends. Oversees daily operations by scheduling and training staff, including students and temporary workers, in collaboration with the Director of Exhibitions.
- Exhibition Logistics (20%) — Manages the secure transport, acceptance, delivery, tracking, packing, and installation of exhibited works. Responsible for maintaining exhibition spaces, ensuring proper care of walls and furnishings, and managing the safe handling of artworks.
- Administrative Support (15%) — Maintains accurate records related to exhibitions, including financial documentation and agreements. Tracks sales and generates invoices, ensuring compliance with organizational standards.
- Programming & Outreach (15%) — Collaborates on the development of innovative programming and events that engage the community. Works closely with the Director to promote and facilitate programs that enhance visitor interaction and participation.
- Event Facilitation (15%) — Assists in the planning and execution of events, working in tandem with various departments to support revenue-generating activities and community engagement initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, Museum Studies, Marketing, or a related field, along with a minimum of one year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of experience in a gallery or event coordination role, with strong organizational, communication, and project management skills. Experience in exhibition registration and public programming is highly desirable.
Additional Information:
This is a full-time position with a standard workweek that may include evening and weekend commitments as necessary. The role requires flexibility in transitioning between various exhibition sites as needed for programming and events.
Essential Position: This position is critical to the operations of the Association of Academic Museums & Galleries and contributes significantly to its mission of promoting academic engagement through the arts.
