Position: Licensed School Nurse
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver training on the significance of tracking essential health information.
- Collaborate with Human Resources and administrative staff regarding PCA certification and compliance with the Excluded Provider List.
- Establish cooperative relationships with Case Managers and Paraprofessionals to ensure adherence to school regulations and timely identification of new students with changing health needs.
- Uphold strict confidentiality standards in accordance with HIPAA and FERPA for students qualifying for school services.
- Address parent inquiries regarding the school's health processes with empathy, referring them to administrative staff when necessary.
- Investigate additional funding opportunities through Mental Health resources and private insurance.
- Administer direct nursing services, including first aid, emergency care, medication management, g-tube feedings, and catheterizations, along with health education.
- Provide mental health support and facilitate referrals to appropriate school personnel or community organizations.
- Enhance student learning by addressing health-related barriers and promoting overall wellness.
- Conduct hearing and vision screenings.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Additional Duties:
- Participate in professional growth and evaluation activities, including student engagement planning and administrative observations.
- Engage with community organizations and professional associations that support student and family health and development.
- Attend local, regional, and state conferences to stay informed about developments in school health and student support services.
- Organize and oversee the emergency response team.
Qualifications:
- Experience as a Public Health Nurse or Licensed School Nurse at the elementary or secondary level is preferred.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
- Experience working with medically dependent, fragile, and complex students and their families.
- Preferred knowledge of special education processes and practices.
