As an Underwriter at Amerind, you will play a crucial role in evaluating the degree of risk involved in individual insurance applications. Your responsibility will be to determine the acceptance of applications, coverage amounts, and premium for personal or commercial lines business. You will work closely with broker partners, third-party administrators, or financial institutions to maintain positive and professional relationships.
This is a challenging role that requires strong analytical and decision-making skills. You will need to examine insurance applications, conduct research, collect background information, and make risk assessments. Your ability to effectively communicate with customers, clients, and other employees will be essential in delivering and explaining policy details.
Key Responsibilities
- Examine insurance applications, conduct research, and collect background information to make risk assessments.
- Negotiate with customers regarding premium, coverage limits, coverages, and policy terms.
- Underwrite various types of insurance policies for individuals, businesses, or equity pool members.
- Calculate premiums and establish payment methods.
- Makes final determinations on risk acceptability within company guidelines.
- Interact with policyholders to deliver and explain policy details.
- Ensure policy requirements are met, including completion of necessary forms.
- Evaluate property characteristics to decide if it is a good insurance risk.
- Create endorsements and coverage documents for clients.
- Perform administrative tasks, such as answering phones and handling policy renewals.
- Renders decisions based on consultations with Senior Underwriters, managers, and upper management.
- Participate in cross-functional team training.
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration or related field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of three years of underwriting experience.
- Insurance Associate in Underwriting (AU) Professional Designation preferred.
- Valid driver's license.
- No felony, theft, or fraud convictions.
- Ability to pass a background investigation.
- Travel required 10% of time; COVID-19 vaccination preferred.
- Typical business office setting with moderate noise level and outdoor settings with a high noise level.
- Non-office environment may be encountered for offsite presentations and support of company activities.
- Ability to sit for work at a computer for more than 6 hours per day.
- Ability to use hands for dexterity of motion and reach with hands and arms.
- Frequently required to talk and hear.
- Ability to occasionally lift 10+ lbs.
