Program Overview – ICU Training Cohort
RN Plus ICU Program
The HCA RN Plus ICU Program offers a structured pathway for Registered Nurses transitioning from Acute Care Medical-Surgical and Telemetry settings into the ICU specialty.
This program includes a comprehensive 10-week training regimen:
- Four weeks of interactive classroom instruction, case studies, hands-on skills training, and simulations led by experienced StaRN clinical instructors.
- Six weeks of clinical preceptorship on the unit.
Classroom Training Highlights
- Curriculum grounded in evidence-based practices and HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence.
- Basic Dysrhythmia training.
- Basic and Advanced Life Support certifications.
- Hands-on training with Meditech systems.
- Critical Care medication management.
- Communication strategies based on TeamSTEPPS.
- Patient experience training, fall prevention, and more.
Hands-on Critical Care Skills Training includes:
- IV and Phlebotomy techniques.
- Indwelling catheter management.
- Chest tube care.
- Pump management.
- Medication titration in critical care.
- Blood administration protocols.
- Hemodynamic monitoring.
- Ventilator management and troubleshooting.
The program also features five days of high-fidelity simulation training, focusing on critical care scenarios with comprehensive debriefing sessions.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of RN experience in non-critical care settings.
