Overview:
The Acute Trauma Medical Surgical unit encompasses a 40-bed mixed facility located on the 5th floor. This unit is dedicated to the care of patients requiring medical monitoring as well as those with traumatic injuries transferred from critical care and emergency services. Additionally, it specializes in the post-operative management of patients undergoing both acute and chronic gastrointestinal and urologic procedures. Recognized as "The Center of Excellence" for bariatric surgery patient care, this unit is equipped with a robust support team.
Patient Care Responsibilities:
A Registered Professional Nurse plays a crucial role in delivering patient care through a comprehensive process that includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Furthermore, the RN is responsible for prescribing, delegating, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating patient education and the activities of ancillary nursing staff while upholding the standards of professional nursing practice. The Registered Nurse is skilled in providing both direct and indirect patient care.
Team Support:
For the 40-bed unit, there are typically 3-4 Patient Care Technicians scheduled each shift to assist with nursing support. A Mobility Technician from the Physical Therapy Department is assigned to aid patients in their mobilization efforts. Additionally, a certified wound care nurse conducts weekly rounds on every patient to ensure comprehensive wound management.
Qualifications:
A. Education and Skills
Graduation from a State Board accredited School of Nursing or an equivalent program.
B. Experience
Preferred: At least one year of experience in an acute hospital setting.
C. Licenses and Certifications
Must possess a current RN license or permit to practice professional nursing in the State of Texas. Certification in American Heart Association BLS is required within two weeks of employment.
