Your Role in Making a Difference

The Float Nurse is a Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurse (LPN or LVN) tasked with delivering patient care in a correctional environment by assisting in the nursing processes of assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Under the supervision of Registered Nurses (RNs), the Float Nurse provides patient education and engages in activities within their demonstrated competencies. They are responsible for adhering to the Nursing Practice Act and collaborating with other healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assists in patient assessments and the planning of individualized treatment programs, consulting with RNs and other staff as necessary in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Implements tailored treatment plans under the supervision of the Health Care Practitioner, including administering medications and obtaining diagnostic tests.
  • Responds to emergencies and applies appropriate safety techniques and procedures.
  • Aids the Health Care Practitioner in medical or minor surgical procedures and implements nutritional and therapeutic diet plans.
  • Documents nursing encounters and communicates relevant information to appropriate personnel as required by policy and procedure.

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing

Experience

  • One (1) or more years of clinical experience required
  • One (1) or more years of correctional healthcare experience preferred
  • Must be willing and able to travel 100% of the time to various sites within the designated region

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in the states of practice
  • Current CPR certification
