Job Summary:

The Nonpublic School Teacher Tutor will provide academic support to students in reading and math subject areas. This position requires a strong background in mathematics and the ability to work with students of varying skill levels.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct tutorial sessions that promote collaborative learning and student-led discussions.
  • Determine the areas of focus for tutorial sessions based on student testing, worksheets, and discussions.
  • Reinforce the importance of learning beyond mere studying and its impact on long-term accomplishments.
  • Assist students in reading and math subject areas by being familiar with materials and classroom resources.
  • Teach study skills and other aspects of classroom preparation.
  • Establish a positive tone and atmosphere in the tutoring group.
  • Develop a resource file of enrichment/intervention materials for use in tutorial sessions and continued learning at home.
  • Communicate regularly with classroom teachers and the WPS Title I Department regarding student progress and areas of concern.
  • Set an example and provide expectations for students to follow.
Requirements:
  • A Certified teaching degree is required.
  • An active, valid Kansas Teaching License is required.
Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a standard office and school building environment. The ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities is also required.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, teachers, and other stakeholders.
  • Ability to work as an effective team player.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work to meet the daily demands of the building.

  • Ability to conform to proper standards of professional dress and appearance.
Interrelations:

This position requires contact with personnel within the district and with customers and vendors. The ability to handle all situations with tact and diplomacy is essential.

Employee Punctuality and Appearance:

Any deviation from assigned hours must have prior approval from the employee's supervisor or building administrator. All employees are required to report to work dressed in a manner that reflects a positive image and is appropriate for their position.
