Position Overview
In this role, the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) will operate under general supervision and in collaboration with a physician, executing responsibilities aligned with their educational background and clinical expertise. Key duties include administering anesthetics and adjunct medications to ensure patient comfort during procedures, monitoring patients' conditions throughout anesthesia, and employing professional judgment to initiate corrective actions as necessary.
Key Responsibilities:
- Build preoperative relationships with patients and their families, providing clear explanations regarding anesthetic options and addressing any concerns with sensitivity.
- Collaborate with physicians to develop individualized anesthetic care plans based on thorough patient assessments and surgical requirements.
- Ensure the integrity of all anesthesia equipment and supplies prior to procedures.
- Assess the need for invasive and non-invasive monitoring techniques, applying necessary equipment to ensure patient safety.
- Implement the anesthetic plan, administering various anesthetic agents to achieve desired outcomes.
- Monitor fluid and blood loss during surgery, administering fluids and blood products as required.
- Conduct continuous monitoring during anesthesia, documenting significant events and adjusting care plans based on patient responses.
- Transport patients to recovery, providing comprehensive assessments and reports to recovery personnel.
- Evaluate and discharge patients from recovery based on established criteria, summarizing post-anesthetic conditions.
- Provide emergency resuscitative care as needed throughout the facility.
- Demonstrate proficiency in the use of anesthetic equipment, reporting any defects as necessary.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and serve as a resource for other healthcare personnel.
- Collaborate with physicians to manage patients experiencing acute or chronic pain.
- Participate in educational experiences, mentoring students and healthcare staff.
- Maintain knowledge of DMC policies and actively engage in quality assurance and improvement initiatives.
- Conduct research to enhance clinical practices and patient outcomes.
- Integrate clinical and management skills with fiscal responsibility.
- Lead committees to address departmental and system-wide concerns.
- Mentor individuals involved in patient care, fostering a collaborative environment.
- Engage in community activities that align with the organization's mission.
Qualifications:
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program.
- Completion of an accredited anesthesia program.
- National CRNA certification and/or re-certification.
- Active Michigan nursing license.
- Michigan Specialty Certification in Anesthesia.
- Membership in the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists.
- Preferred: Master's degree in anesthesia or a related field.
