Role of the Claims ManagerThe Claims Manager will oversee a team of experts to facilitate operational functions for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Key responsibilities include:
- Engaging in daily operations with the NFIP Claims branch
- Collaborating with insurers and vendors on behalf of FEMA
- Providing expertise during NFIP meetings and outreach efforts
- Identifying and documenting risks and issues promptly
- Managing assigned risks, issues, and mitigation strategies
- Delivering status updates and addressing blockers in Daily Stand Up meetings
- Promoting process and system enhancements to improve stakeholder engagement
- Ensuring timely submission of contract deliverables
- Overseeing project timelines to meet contract obligations and disaster response tasks
As the Claims Manager, you will also be responsible for:
- Developing and executing plans for Claims Administration and Flood Disaster Response processes
- Coaching and motivating the Claims Admin and FDR Team members
- Documenting performance and conducting evaluations
- Preparing operational reports and ensuring quality control over deliverables
To qualify for this position, candidates must meet the following criteria:
- A minimum of 3 years in operations or business service management
- At least 3 years of experience in people management
- A Bachelor's Degree
- A demonstrated background with the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) with over 5 years of experience
- Commitment to obtaining ANFI certification within the first 6 months if not already certified
- Exceptional skills in customer relationship management
- Strong verbal and written communication abilities
- Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Highly organized, energetic, and a collaborative team player
- U.S. Citizenship
- Ability to obtain Public Trust clearance
- Completion of the NFIP course series through EMI within the first 30 days
- Capability to complete EOD high
While not mandatory, the following qualifications are advantageous:
- Project Management certification (e.g., PMP)
- Strong background in Property & Casualty insurance, with a willingness to learn NFIP processes
- Experience with leading P&C insurance software systems
- Familiarity with Agile project management methodologies
- Hands-on experience in business process improvement and lean methodologies
- Experience in process audit preparation and closeout
- Proficiency with SharePoint and MS Project
