Position Summary

The Pathology Lab Technician will be responsible for conducting a range of laboratory tests, including bacterial and viral cultures, as well as antibiotic sensitivity assessments. This role involves data entry, generating laboratory reports, performing necropsies, and collecting relevant samples.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for bacterial and viral culture testing.
  • Plate bacterial cultures on suitable media.
  • Conduct antibiotic sensitivity tests.
  • Prepare various media, including BHI Broth and Semen Extender.
  • Input data and laboratory results into the computer system.
  • Generate comprehensive laboratory reports.
  • Perform necropsies and fecal examinations.
  • Carry out additional laboratory tasks as assigned.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Proficient in sterile techniques.
  • Willingness to learn laboratory procedures.
  • Experience operating laboratory equipment.
  • Familiarity with data collection techniques and terminology.
  • Competent in computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to comprehend and follow both oral and written instructions.

Educational Background

A degree in Biology, Microbiology, Poultry Science, Animal Science, or a related field is required, along with relevant work experience in an animal diagnostic laboratory setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Moderate cleaning duties are necessary.

Work Environment

This position is situated in a casual environment, requiring appropriate attire for working with animals.
