Position Overview:
Lead Utilities Systems Engineer
Location:
Thousand Oaks, CA
Role Summary:
In the capacity of a Lead Utilities Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, development, implementation, and assessment of efficient, cost-effective solutions and technologies within critical Utilities in a GMP environment in the Biopharmaceutical sector.
Your role will also encompass providing technical expertise in Utilities and related fields (e.g., Electrical, Refrigeration, and HVAC). This position may involve overseeing and training contractors, defining and initiating engineering projects, and educating plant utility operators.
You will report directly to the Head of Critical Utilities.Key Responsibilities:
- Support manufacturing operations, maintenance, and troubleshooting of equipment and infrastructure improvements related to Life Safety, Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and HVAC.
- Exhibit ownership of critical Utilities, acting as the Subject Matter Expert for associated areas and facilitating daily operations of the facility.
- Utilize engineering methodologies to address issues (FMEA, Process modeling, etc.).
- Serve as a Subject Matter Expert for critical utilities on medium and large-scale expense or capital projects.
- Advocate for Energy Optimization initiatives.
- Assess existing preventive maintenance schedules and enhance the operational efficiency of the CMMS system.
- Investigate and analyze customer service challenges and propose improvement strategies.
- Experience in GMP within the pharmaceutical industry is highly desirable.
- Proficient knowledge in aseptic techniques is advantageous.
- Background in facilities engineering, project coordination, and operational experience in the life sciences domain.
- Experience in managing quality documentation such as Change controls, CAPA, Deviations, within the quality Trackwise system.
- Technical expertise in HVAC, Refrigeration, WFI, RO, Chillers, Boilers, BAS & CMMS systems, UPS, electrical, mechanical, etc.
- Financial planning and analysis skills to operate within budgetary and time constraints.
- Strong technical acumen to propose enhancements within the site.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related Industrial Engineering discipline is required. An Electrical Engineering background or relevant experience is preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of pertinent work experience.
Work Environment Considerations:
- This role may involve a combination of sedentary work and active observation of facility conditions.
- Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 25 lbs.
- May require working in a controlled environment necessitating special gowning and protective clothing.
- Potential exposure to varying environmental conditions including cold, heat, or wet environments.
- Possible exposure to chemicals that may necessitate respiratory protection.
- Flexibility to work beyond standard hours, including weekends and holidays, may be required.
