Special Education Assistant

We are seeking a highly qualified Special Education Assistant to join our team at Deming Public Schools. As a Special Education Assistant, you will provide instructional and general clerical support to teachers with special education students in the classroom, computer lab, and on-campus grounds.
Key Responsibilities- Accompany students and adapt instructional materials to special student needs.
- Assist the special education teacher in preparing materials and activities for classroom instruction.
- Assist small groups and individual students with classroom activities and assignments.
- Assist with personal care needs such as diapering, feeding children, and supervising students according to their medical management plan.
- Accompany students to a mainstream setting, translating between English and Spanish.
- Assist substitute teachers as needed.
- Participate in staff meetings and in-service training activities.
- High school diploma or GED certificate.
- Educational coursework and prior classroom experience in special needs student settings preferred.
- Current certification in CPR and First Aid training.
- Substitute teacher's license preferred.
The work environment is inside with moderate noise levels. The employee frequently works with a video display terminal for prolonged periods.
