Position Overview: The Staff Gastroenterologist is responsible for delivering specialized medical and surgical care to patients at Boys Town National Research Hospital, as well as referral patients. This role involves direct patient care and collaboration within multi-disciplinary clinic teams.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide comprehensive care for gastrointestinal patients in both hospital and outpatient settings.
  • Act as a medical contributor to the multi-disciplinary evaluation and treatment team, focusing on children with digestive system disorders.
  • Design and implement clinical and/or fundamental research initiatives in the gastroenterology specialty, in alignment with the strategic objectives of Boys Town National Research Hospital.
  • Collaborate with fellow hospital staff on clinical and/or basic research endeavors.
  • Engage in educational programs developed by Boys Town National Research Hospital, aimed at undergraduate and graduate medical education, continuing education, nursing, and allied health disciplines.
  • Contribute to the formulation of program/project goals, sub-goals, and staffing requirements for effective medical program management.
  • Take on special assignments as directed by the Director of Boys Town National Research Hospital.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated commitment to functioning as part of a multi-disciplinary team, including non-physician members, in the care of children with communication disabilities.
  • Proven research capabilities, evidenced by publications in medical journals.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Strong assessment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to maintain thorough documentation of patient interactions and outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Doctor of Medicine degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Board certification in Pediatrics and subspecialty certification in Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition is mandatory.
  • Eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Nebraska is required.
  • Qualification for a faculty appointment at Creighton University Medical School in the Department of Pediatrics and for clinical hospital privileges is necessary.
  • A minimum of three years of pediatric residency training, along with additional fellowship training in gastroenterology, hepatology, and nutrition, is required.
