About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Companion Animal Department Manager to join our team at Petco Animal Supplies Stores, Inc. As a key member of our leadership team, you will be responsible for driving sales and effective operations within the aquatics, reptile, bird, and small companion animals department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Accountable for driving sales and effective operations within the department, ensuring the health and welfare of all live animals and merchandise.
  • Responsible for achieving the department's budgeted sales goals, gross margin, animal and merchandise shrink targets, managing inventory levels, supply cost, reported budgeted expense rates, and budgeted contribution.
  • Directly supervise the Aquatics Specialist(s), lead and coach all store partners in providing great guest service and performing their assigned tasks to achieve budgeted sales.
  • Ensure all supply back stock is worked daily and all other department back stock is maintained at a minimum of 3x per week.
  • Responsible for proper ordering of live animals to maximize sales, margin, and inventory, analyzing inventory management data for the department and making recommendations for improvement.
  • Ensure OSE standards are maintained in the department, providing training and coaching in GUEST and product knowledge to partners daily on the sales floor and on an ongoing basis.
  • Achieve minimum presentation standards at all times in aquatics, partnering with the SL/GEL to ensure proper scheduling is being maintained in the department to ensure in-stock goals and guest service during peak hours.
  • Partner with the Inventory Leader to ensure in-stock levels are achieved by reporting max changes or requested overrides are achieving I.M. grade.
  • Effectively organize and price all clearance merchandise for the department, assisting the SL/GEL in planning out location changes needed to the grid and ad planner to maximize sales.
  • Perform all aspects of point-of-sale service, including cash sales, credit, and check sales, returns, and exchanges, performing the daily balance of the cash drawer as necessary.
  • Complete cash register transactions and guest carryout service consisting of merchandise weighing up to but not exceeding 50 pounds per trip.
  • Communicate all situations and/or conditions to the SL/GEL that affect the store, ensuring the proper handling and documentation for all Adoption Animals.
  • Ensure the completion of all Planograms, Cut Ins, and Reworks, performing duties and assuming responsibility as Leader on Duty (LOD) as needed.
  • Perform all special or other projects as assigned.
Requirements
  • Directly supervise all Aquatics partners, providing guidance and training to partners, and completing performance evaluations for partners.
  • Ensure OSE standards are maintained throughout the store, providing training and coaching in GUEST and product knowledge to store partners.
  • Partner with the Store Leader and/or Guest Experience Leader to ensure proper store scheduling is being maintained to ensure guest service during peak hours.
  • Adhere to and promote established safety procedures, assisting the Guest Experience Leader and/or Store Leader in planning out location changes needed to the grid and ad planner to maximize sales.
