Job Summary:

Christian Health Care Center is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Activities Therapist to join our team. As a key member of our care team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing activity programs that promote the physical, emotional, and social well-being of our residents.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in planning, developing, and implementing activity programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents.
  • Lead group activities that foster socialization, creativity, and relaxation, while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Record and maintain activity progress notes, attendance records, and patient activity grids, in compliance with our treatment team's master calendar.
  • Transport residents to and from activities, ensuring timely and safe transportation.
  • Collaborate with the care team to ensure the security and well-being of our residents while off-unit.
  • Develop and maintain good rapport with administration, consultants, medical staff, and other departments, while complying with recommended changes in planning activities.
  • Alert the care team to any changes in a resident's condition and report incidents immediately.
  • Encourage patient participation in recreational, educational, and religious programs.
  • Provide reality orientation/validation therapy to residents with Alzheimer's, dementia, or psychiatric diagnoses, as instructed.
  • Complete initial, annual, and reassessment evaluations, as required.
  • Participate in discharge planning, summaries, and development of activity plans, schedules, and patient assessments.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field, such as recreation therapy, gerontology, or a related field.
  • One year of experience working with geriatric populations, preferably in a dementia or adult/geropsychiatric setting.
  • Aptitude for arts and crafts, with the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work harmoniously with other personnel.
  • Patient, tactful, and cheerful disposition, with the ability to handle residents based on their physical, mental, and emotional level.
  • Ability to seek out new methods and principles, and incorporate them into existing activity programs.
  • Understanding of the social, psychological, and recreational needs of the aged.
