Role Purpose
The Clinical Nurse Specialist plays a vital role in delivering direct patient care, adhering to the standards set forth by the American Nurses Association (ANA). This position requires collaboration with patients, their families, and a multidisciplinary healthcare team to ensure effective healthcare delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Patient Assessment: Conduct thorough assessments and reassessments of patients as clinically necessary. Document detailed information that reflects the patient's physical, mental, and emotional status, ensuring comprehensive care plans are in place.
- Medication Administration: Administer medications while adhering to the five Rights of Medication Administration. Engage with patients and their families about the medications being provided, assessing for allergies and potential side effects.
- Care Coordination: Oversee the delivery of nursing care, including the delegation of tasks while maintaining accountability for the care provided.
- Safety Promotion: Actively work to foster a culture of safety by assessing patients for potential risks and adhering to hospital policies regarding patient safety.
- Patient Education: Identify the learning needs of patients and their families, providing appropriate instruction and assessing their responses to the education provided.
- Cultural Competence: Deliver patient-centered care that respects the diverse backgrounds of patients and team members, maintaining open lines of communication.
- Professional Development: Engage in continuous learning and mentorship to enhance clinical skills and knowledge, contributing to a culture of growth within the organization.
Qualifications
- Graduation from an accredited nursing program with an Associate's Degree (required) or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (preferred).
- Current and valid Registered Nurse licenses in New York and Connecticut.
- Completion of required certifications and training as outlined by the organization.
