The Rose Bowl Aquatics Center offers a unique opportunity to join a team dedicated to providing the finest aquatic educational, competitive, therapeutic, and recreational programs. As an Adaptive Swim Instructor, you will play a critical role in teaching swimming techniques and water safety skills to individuals with disabilities.

Under the supervision of our Adaptive Programs Manager, you will be responsible for teaching adaptive water safety/swim lessons to individuals with disabilities. This position requires good leadership, professional appearance and attitude, self-motivation, and a strong work ethic.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Teaching adaptive water safety/swim lessons to individuals with disabilities
  • Documenting daily attendance, completing assessments, and maintaining necessary data in Athena platform
  • Being prompt and prepared to begin sessions on time and in an organized fashion; obtaining and setting-up equipment prior to a session and putting equipment away when finished
  • Displaying professional behavior and being accountable for the safety and positive learning experience for each individual
  • Responding to family, guardian, and caregiver concerns and problems when necessary
  • Preparing semi-annual/annual reports reflecting individuals' progress and behavioral responses while attending lessons
  • Maintaining a safe and clean work area
  • Attending in-service training sessions
  • Performing other duties as required

Preferred knowledge/skills/abilities include teaching swimming and water safety skills, working/teaching individuals with disabilities, leadership and communication skills, and ability to work independently and possess energy and enthusiasm.

Preferred qualifications include one-year previous aquatic teaching experience, experience working with special needs population, Water Safety Instructor certification, and CPR/AED certification.

Work is performed outdoors with potentially inclement weather conditions. Some local travel may be required. Position requires regular contact with the public. Must be able to work under pressure, exercise sound judgment, and adhere to deadlines.
