Job Summary
USA Health is seeking a skilled Perfusion Specialist to join our team of medical professionals. As a Perfusion Specialist, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and effective operation of cardiopulmonary bypass machines during surgical procedures.

Responsibilities
Assess patients via chart review and consult with surgeons to design and assemble the proper extracorporeal circuit
Prime, recirculate, and test the extracorporeal circuit prior to initiation of cardiopulmonary bypass
Initiate, continuously assess, and manipulate the operation of the heart-lung bypass machine to maintain the patient's physiologic parameters within normal limits during cardiopulmonary bypass
Administer blood products, drugs, and pharmacological agents as required to maintain the patient's physiological status within normal limits via heart-lung machine directed by surgeon/anesthesia provider
Obtain blood specimens for blood gas and anticoagulation analysis and interpret their results
Disassemble and clean the perfusion equipment
Direct and/or assist the set-up, troubleshooting, testing, and operation of the physiologic monitoring instrumentation
Assemble, operate, and maintain other related extracorporeal equipment used in surgery and intensive care units
Assist with the care, maintenance, and inventory of departmental equipment and supplies
Act as an instructor for all scheduled clinical rotations of students enrolled at the University of South Alabama and other approved academic institutions
Orient new personnel as assigned
Communicate and use appropriate customer relation skills with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare team in person and via telephone
Respond to digital, voice, and overhead pages
Maintain accurate and complete records by completing Cardiopulmonary Bypass record, Auto transfusion record; Balloon Pump record; Surgical Report record, and patient charges
File and maintain reports, database, and records
Regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and overtime as required
Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in circulation technology from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, and current certification as a Circulation Technologist with the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusionists or the International Board of Circulation Technologists or attainment within two years of employment
