About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Machinist I to join our Horizontal Machining Team at Peerless Pump, an Indianapolis-based subsidiary of Grundfos. This position will report directly to the Production Supervisor and will operate daily out of our Indianapolis, IN facility.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform complete setup and operations for various types of manual machines, including lathes, mills, drills, and grinders.
  • Read blueprints, drawings, specifications, and setup sheets to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and setup requirements.
  • Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines.
  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut.
  • Observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls or control media as required.
  • Verify conformance of finished work pieces to prints and specifications and perform secondary operations such as deburring, chip removal, bushing installation, drilling, and tapping.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • 1-3 years of manual machining experience, including experience with mills, drills, and grinders.
  • Able to read and interpret drawings, specifications, setup sheets, and use precision measuring instruments.
  • Intermediate knowledge of blueprint reading, manufacturing principles, and safety protocols.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and work in a non-air-conditioned environment.
  • Basic computer skills in SAP and Microsoft Office.
