Key Responsibilities

The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for:

  • Conducting Nuclear Medicine examinations in accordance with established protocols.
  • Administering prescribed pharmaceutical-grade radioactive materials to patients, adhering to state and federal regulations.
  • Implementing safety measures regarding radioactive materials for self, colleagues, and patients as mandated by regulatory standards.
  • Communicating procedures to patients prior to examinations.
  • Demonstrating proficiency with Nuclear Medicine equipment, including Spect Cameras, PET, and PACS.
  • Ensuring the availability of a physician for procedures requiring medication administration and supervision.
  • Performing quality control checks to maintain departmental operations.
  • Maintaining accurate documentation regarding radioactive materials throughout the process.
  • Conducting surveys and documenting findings in work areas, patient rooms, and radioactive waste storage areas at scheduled intervals.
  • Entering procedure charges into patient accounts promptly.
  • Coordinating outpatient examinations with assigned physicians or their extenders.
  • Managing scheduled procedures with radioactive materials and necessary supplies.
  • Adhering to policies regarding Standard Precautions, Infection Control, and Radiation Safety as outlined by relevant authorities.
  • Collaborating with the Radiation Safety Officer to uphold quality control and assurance standards to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned to support departmental functions.
Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Associate Degree and completion of a Nuclear Medicine Program (NMTCB) and/or ARRT (N).
  • Preferred: A minimum of 1 year of experience as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Certification from the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Nuclear Medicine Technology (ARRT (N)) or as a Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) through the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB).
  • State-regulated Radiological Technician or Certified Medical Radiologic Technologist (CMRT) certification through the Texas Medical Board.
  • Current BLS Healthcare Provider certification as per St. David's HealthCare policy.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 30 days of employment.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification must be obtained within 6 months of employment.
