About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Care Coordinator to join our team at the Hernando County Sheriff's Office. As a key member of our animal care unit, you will be responsible for providing medical and surgical care for animals housed or owned by the shelter.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Examine and treat animals housed at and/or owned by the shelter, directing population management decisions and advising on operational decisions to decrease disease and increase good health.
  2. Treat, immunize, spay, or neuter adult and juvenile animals in accordance with established Association of Shelter Veterinarians best practice guidelines.
  3. Perform laboratory testing and radiology findings for disease and/or injuries, interpreting and recording results as necessary.
Requirements
  • A Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Licensed to practice veterinary medicine in the state of Florida or seeking such license for new graduates.
  • Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with coworkers and effectively communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and community groups.
  • Knowledge of animal shelter operations, including care, common illnesses behavior, impoundment procedures, animal handling equipment, animal safety and sanitation procedures.
Salary and Benefits

The estimated salary for this position is $90,000 - $120,000 per year, depending on experience. We offer a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance, retirement plan, and paid time off.
