Job Summary

HF Sinclair Corporation is seeking a highly skilled Inspector Technician to join our team. As an Inspector Technician, you will be responsible for conducting moderately complex inspection duties and assignments for the Inspection Department under minimal supervision. You will act as a liaison with other departments within the refinery and may direct or lead the work of others from time to time.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure the integrity of equipment and certify its condition as required.
  • Ensure company records comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Inspect equipment, including atmospheric storage tanks, pressure vessels, piping, boilers, heaters, and relief valves.
  • Perform Non-Destructive Tests (NDT) using techniques such as Magnetic Particle, Liquid Penetrant, and Ultrasonic Thickness.
  • Generate inspection memos and issue equipment deficiency reports and repair recommendations.
  • Interpret inspection results, analyze for trending, and write and prioritize work for corrective action.
  • Maintain a complete and historical database for equipment used to determine corrosion rates, scope of inspections, and frequency modification.
  • Approve work of Contracted Inspections and NDE services providers and hydrostatic testing.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced Inspectors.
  • Maintain department equipment and instruments as required.
  • Work on special emphasis projects as assigned.


Additional Responsibilities

  • Ensure tank seal inspections and records as required by the EPA.
  • Perform weld inspections.


Requirements

A minimum of five years of inspection experience or non-destructive testing experience in a related industry is required. Certification and experience working with ASNT Level II (UTT, MT, PT, RT) are also required. A minimum of a High School Diploma or equivalent is required. The ideal candidate will have the ability to lead and direct the work of other associates, working knowledge of inspection methods, and computer program familiarity with MS Office suite and data management programs in use within the Inspection Department. Ability to effectively communicate with others, advanced reading and writing skills, and the ability to perform intermediate mathematical calculations are also essential. AWS CWI or special training in infrared camera operation and image evaluation, or certifications in API-653 Atmospheric Storage Tanks, and Level 1 Infrared Thermography, Level II NDE certification, along with other specialty training, are preferred but not required.

Work Environment

The Inspector Technician will work in an office and field-based environment, with up to 5% travel by land and air required. The work environment will include petroleum refineries, warehouses/plant environments, out-of-doors environments, driver-based environments, and exposure to chemicals, pressure vessels, tanks, rotating equipment, and confined spaces. The ideal candidate will be able to work in a variety of temperatures, weather, and road conditions. Physical requirements include standing, walking, sitting, twisting, stooping, crouching, kneeling, talking or hearing, making visual inspections, making precise hand and finger movements, reaching or grasping, lifting and/or carrying, pushing and/or pulling, climbing up to 180ft, perceiving color difference, and ability to wear personal protective equipment (beards not permitted).
