Internship Duration: Part-time, up to 29 hours per week.
The Davis County Sheriff's Office is seeking a dedicated individual for the position of Crisis Management Intern. Under the supervision of the Davis County Emergency Services Manager, the intern will engage in professional activities aimed at enhancing emergency preparedness and response strategies for Davis County, in alignment with the internship framework established by the intern's educational institution, if applicable.
Qualifications
- Possession of a valid Utah driver's license is required. Interns using personal vehicles for county duties must uphold the minimum vehicle liability insurance as mandated by Utah law. Safe operation of a vehicle in accordance with all relevant laws and regulations is essential.
- Adherence to Davis County Policies and the Standards and Procedures of the Davis County Sheriff's Department is mandatory.
- Professionalism must be maintained at all times, representing Davis County positively.
- Depending on the assigned tasks, the intern may need to successfully complete a criminal background check and drug screening.
Daily Responsibilities
- Collaborate directly with emergency management personnel, gaining valuable insights into real-world emergency management practices.
- Take ownership of assigned projects and tasks, meeting established objectives. Engage with the public courteously and compassionately, addressing community needs and inquiries.
- Work collaboratively with team members towards shared goals. Punctuality and commitment to scheduled work hours are expected.
- Assist in formulating emergency plans, training initiatives, and comprehensive strategies for emergency preparedness and management.
- Engage with officials from various governmental agencies and organizations, including Davis County Government, municipal authorities, law enforcement, fire departments, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and other entities to assess their needs and capabilities in the event of emergencies.
- Support the planning of emergency response activities for Davis County.
- Accurately track and report internship hours.
- Perform additional related duties as assigned.
Skills & Knowledge: Proficiency in computer applications (Excel, Word, desktop publishing, web-based tools), organizational skills, and effective written communication.
Abilities: Competently utilize a computer and relevant software; exercise sound judgment; identify issues and propose solutions; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; follow instructions accurately; complete assigned tasks diligently; and foster positive working relationships with colleagues, other agencies, and the public.
