Job Summary

The Assembly Welder Specialist will be responsible for assembling, joining, fabricating, and repairing metal and other materials by applying appropriate welding techniques. This individual will interpret blueprints, specifications, diagrams, or schematics to determine an appropriate welding process. Additionally, they will provide maintenance of assembled equipment, analyze it, and ensure any issues are addressed accordingly. To ensure quality, the Assembly Welder Specialist will inspect completed welds to determine structural soundness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assembly and Fabrication: Produce components by assembling parts and subassemblies.
  • Blueprint Interpretation: Read and decipher schematics, blueprints, and assembly instructions.
  • Tool Operation: Use hand tools or machines to assemble parts.
  • Welding and Repair: Design, fabricate, join, fit/tack, and repair equipment, fixtures, and various types of metal objects and structures using various welding techniques.
  • Maintenance and Quality Control: Operate drill presses, power saws, grinders, and a variety of welding equipment and hand tools. Weld components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions. Analyze plans, drawings, work samples, specifications, and work orders to determine work requirements and sequence of welding assignments/techniques.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and Skills: Have knowledge of welding techniques, tools, and equipment. Use proper safety and protective equipment utilized during welding assignments.
  • Technical Abilities: Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and various forms of instrumentation. Prior experience with metal fabrication.
  • Education and Experience: Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent. May be required to complete an apprenticeship and/or formal training in area of specialty. May require 0-2 years of experience in the field or in a related area.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Demonstrated ability to work in poor lighting, heating, and ventilation. Demonstrated ability to work in extreme hot and cold conditions. Demonstrated ability to work in dirty and noisy areas.
  • Physical Abilities: Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools. Demonstrated ability to interpret blueprints. Demonstrated ability to sketch schematics. Demonstrated ability to work in tight places. Demonstrated ability to lift moderately heavy objects. Demonstrated ability to do excessive walking, standing, bending, and stooping.
  • Attendance and Punctuality: Demonstrated ability to maintain proper attendance and punctuality standards.
