Position Summary: We are seeking experienced Underwriters with a background in commercial underwriting, specifically in GSE affordable loans. The Underwriter will be responsible for conducting thorough financial, market, and underwriting analyses of affordable multifamily loans. This role presents a unique opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge of multifamily mortgage underwriting while collaborating closely with clients and receiving training under industry-leading programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform detailed analysis and underwriting of complex multifamily real estate transactions in accordance with agency guidelines.
- Conduct comprehensive economic and demographic research to assess transaction feasibility.
- Prepare and deliver detailed loan approval packages to the credit committee.
- Foster strong relationships with origination and closing teams as well as external agency investors.
- Carry out thorough inspections of physical real estate assets as required.
Core Competencies:
- Exceptional analytical, research, and presentation skills.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and independent judgment with a focus on accuracy.
- Proven ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects effectively.
- Ability to work efficiently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- Demonstrated strong work ethic and teamwork capabilities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Real Estate, or a related field.
- 3-5+ years of experience in commercial underwriting, particularly with affordable loans.
- Prior experience with DUS underwriting and familiarity with Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac Multifamily Guides.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
Compensation: The starting salary for this position is $90,000 annually, with additional incentives based on experience and qualifications. The actual salary will be determined based on various factors, including skills, experience, and education.
Working Conditions: This role will be conducted in a standard office environment.
