About the Position

The Department of Commerce is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the position of Director of the Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML). As the leader of AOML, you will be responsible for defining and directing research programs that advance our understanding of climate variability and change, hurricane and ocean forecasting, and integrated coastal ecosystem management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide strategic direction and leadership to AOML's research programs and staff
  • Develop and implement research plans that align with NOAA's overall research goals and objectives
  • Collaborate with other NOAA laboratories and external partners to advance our understanding of ocean and atmospheric phenomena
  • Ensure the transition of research into operational NOAA capability and information services
  • Administer resources in accordance with priorities and ensure a safe work environment for all employees
Requirements
  • Must have a degree in Physical science, engineering, or mathematics with 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering sciences
  • Must have senior-level experience in organizational analysis/assessment and management principles and practices associated with program planning and execution
  • Must have demonstrated ability to sustain and expand research leadership through partnerships with national and international research organizations and stakeholders
  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret clearance
