POSITION OVERVIEW

The Placer County District Attorney's Office is pleased to announce a vacancy for the role of Investigative Assistant within the Special Investigations Unit (SIU). This position offers a unique opportunity to manage your own case load focused on early fraud detection, electronic benefits theft, and the investigation of overpayments and over-issuance of public assistance.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES

As an Investigative Assistant, you will collaborate closely with Welfare Fraud Investigators, engaging in fieldwork that includes conducting interviews, performing home visits, and collecting evidence. The eligible list established through this recruitment may also be utilized to fill future vacancies across the county.

KEY DUTIES INCLUDE:

  • Assisting in the execution of criminal and civil investigations, particularly those involving welfare fraud and other violations.
  • Conducting preliminary data collection and investigative research, while performing clerical duties as needed.
  • Engaging in community outreach and maintaining effective communication with various stakeholders.
  • Performing routine investigations into alleged law violations, including welfare fraud and check forgeries.
  • Conducting home visits to assess documentation and statements for inconsistencies.
  • Researching and gathering necessary data for criminal case work, including obtaining relevant records.
  • Coordinating with attorneys and investigators to support ongoing investigations.
  • Preparing reports and maintaining accurate records of investigative activities.
  • Conducting forensic interviews using established protocols.
  • Assisting in community outreach initiatives and managing social media updates.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This role typically takes place in an office setting with controlled temperature conditions, although travel to various locations may be required under different weather conditions.

QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should possess a combination of experience and training that equips them with the necessary knowledge and skills for this role. A typical qualification pathway includes:

  • Two years of experience as a California Peace Officer or equivalent role in law enforcement.
  • Alternatively, three years of experience in civilian support roles related to law enforcement or public assistance eligibility determination.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Completion of high school education is required, with further training in law enforcement procedures being advantageous. A valid driver's license may also be necessary.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Successful candidates will demonstrate knowledge of basic investigative techniques, public assistance programs, and modern office practices. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential, along with the ability to analyze and evaluate evidence effectively.
