This position is located in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, Asst Secretary for Housing-Federal Housing Commissioner. The Senior Underwriter will serve as the principal technical resource staff person for the Branch Chief, providing advice and guidance on matters pertaining to statutory and regulatory requirements and other administrative directives. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in multifamily housing development, loan origination, and financial risk analysis. The selected candidate will be responsible for each assigned project's overall application, processing, construction, closing, management control, coordination, and execution in accordance with HUD's published guidelines and guidance. The Senior Underwriter will also negotiate and integrate all agency functions, including underwriting, planning, design review, cost engineering, appraisal, credit evaluation, and approval, loan closing, construction, start-up, and long-term management systems and sponsor/customer needs. The position requires a strong understanding of HUD's mission to create strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. The Senior Underwriter will work closely with lenders and other professionals to structure transactions that meet HUD requirements and Low Income Housing Tax Credit requirements. The ideal candidate will have excellent analytical, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines. The position requires a strong commitment to public service and a passion for making a difference in the lives of individuals and communities.
