Job Description

Job Summary:

The Survey Superintendent is responsible for the safe and on-time delivery of the project while maintaining quality, environment, and budget. This individual will provide leadership and support to the Construction Operations Team through planning, coordinating, and directing of daily activities while ensuring adequate staff and resources are available to support survey/layout services requested.

Key Responsibilities:

  • The Survey Superintendent combines leadership responsibilities with hands-on field work, ensuring both the quality of survey delivery and the timely completion of layout/survey tasks.
  • Create and maintain a detailed and accurate job schedule.
  • The Survey Superintendent leads, implements, and enforces jobsite safety requirements and JHL Quality Assurance Program.
  • Responsible for all jobsite documentation that is specific to the Survey/Layout Superintendent role.
  • Manage all JHL on-site survey/layout field staff.
  • Able to assess the accuracy and completeness of Design and control files.
  • Provide technical guidance and training of various survey/layout equipment, tools and processes.
  • Understand contractual and legal guidelines of construction management and processes.
  • Create and maintain daily time sheets, data logs, expense reports and field change orders.
  • Manage inventory of equipment and perform regular maintenance checks of equipment.
  • The ability to work in a variety of construction environments including commercial, educational, industrial and health care related projects.
  • Map processes used by Survey and Layout department for review and improvement.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Willingness to pursue continued education on Survey, Layout and Geomatics.
  • Capable to perform physical field surveys and as-builts utilizing Robotics, GPS, Theodolite and Automatic level systems.

Requirements and Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma, or GED Equivalent.
  • 8-10 Years of experience in commercial construction.
  • Maintain OSHA 30 (minimum) and recommended refresher training as well as any project specific/need based safety training.
  • Attend training for operational software as needed to stay current.
  • 5+ years of experience using TopCon with Magnet Field software or Trimble Equipment with Trimble Business Cetner and Trimble Connect.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Demonstrates strong knowledge of commercial construction and exceptional jobsite management skills; Delivers on key projects and commitments via professional knowledge and leadership abilities.
  • Possesses detailed process & application knowledge relating to building codes, budget management, construction practices, project scheduling etc.

Physical Requirements:

The Survey Superintendent will be required to work in a variety of environments, including office and field settings. The physical demands of this role include:

  • Ability to remain in a seated position for extended periods.
  • Ability to speak, write and comprehend English language.
  • Ability to lift office products and supplies, up to 20 lbs.
  • Ability to hear clearly.
  • Ability to stoop, kneel, bend and reach.
  • Dexterity to write and manipulate computer keyboard and mouse.

Work Environment and Travel:

The Survey Superintendent will be required to work in a variety of construction environments, including commercial, educational, industrial and health care related projects. The role may require daily travel as business requires during scheduled work hours.
