Refrigeration Technician Job Description

Publix Super Markets, Inc. is seeking a skilled Refrigeration Technician to join our Industrial Refrigeration team. As a Refrigeration Technician, you will play a critical role in maintaining the integrity of our refrigerated warehouses and manufacturing facilities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and operate industrial refrigeration systems, ensuring optimal performance and efficiency.
  • Conduct daily rounds to monitor and record temperatures and humidity levels, making adjustments as needed.
  • Perform predictive and preventative maintenance procedures on ammonia and Freon refrigeration systems, including compressors, pumps, fans, heat exchangers, glycol systems, and other industrial utility systems.
  • Train and mentor entry-level refrigeration technicians in day-to-day operations, inspections, and repair techniques.
  • Participate in improvement activities to enhance systems, minimize downtime, and prioritize work.
  • Perform general housekeeping duties, including cleaning and maintaining equipment, emptying trash, and maintaining machine room floors.
Requirements:
  • At least 18 years old.
  • Ability to obtain Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Section 608 certification within one year of hire.
  • Ability to obtain medical clearance to wear respiratory protection within two weeks of hire.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 65 pounds.
  • Experience using hand tools and ability to supply and maintain hand tools.
  • Ability to demonstrate excellent work habits and conform to all OSHA, PSM, HAZMAT, and Publix safety programs and regulations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, respond to unplanned breakdowns, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in glycol, heat exchangers, HVAC, and water chiller systems.
  • Experience in electrical systems, including single and three-phase motor systems, power distribution, and low-voltage controls.
  • Experience maintaining and troubleshooting 480V C3 phase motor control systems.
  • Refrigeration Engineers Technician Association (RETA) certification.
