About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Peer Specialist to join our team at People USA. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who have personal experience with mental health, addiction, or social determinant of health issues to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prioritize individuals identified through our programs for participation in services and programs, providing quick access and quality service.
  • Work in collaboration and coordination with all agencies and individuals partnering in the Cares Act.
  • Represent the peer perspective, recognizing the need for and facilitating connections between consumers and the community.
Requirements
  • Honesty, respect for diversity, high personal standards, language, and behaviors reflecting such values.
  • Demonstrated ability to recognize the need for and facilitate connections between consumers and the community.
  • Understanding of available community supports.
  • Working knowledge of confidentiality requirements related to records pertaining to Mental Health and Chemical Dependency laws.
  • Good time management skills and self-direction.
  • Reliable transportation.
Qualifications
  • At least two years in recovery from an acute care environment.
  • Completion of the Academy of Peer Services Training and ability to obtain NY State Peer Specialist Certification.
  • A shared vision of hope for people experiencing a crisis.
  • Work or Volunteer experience providing peer support, advocacy, or human services.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish strongly preferred.
